Just communicate

I recall back in the 1990’s, a colleague who was shocked when I informed that I would be meeting someone whom I’d made contact via a forum. No, it wasn’t a dating forum, expatica.com to be precise. I’d recently landed in Holland and was eager to meet new friends – a fellow Irish graphic designer was a good start.

My colleague blurted, “Nobody socializes with people they meet on the web, why don’t you meet ‘real’ people”. How things have changed, today communication on the web is just as viable as meeting people in person. We can meet anyone from anywhere, say what we want to say, when we want to say it. The online community in which I do my best to partake, is a more relevant community than say a network of old school friends. We communicate because we want to, not just because we’re old acquaintances.
